PetalPower Biking is here to encourage women to increase their level of skill and enjoyment when it comes to mountain biking and as part of this we run regular skills sessions.
The club is fortunate to have a number of qualified female club coaches who provide coaching sessions. These sessions are usually pitched at novice or intermediate level.
We also bring in elite female coaches from time to time to give advanced skills masterclasses (e.g. Bex Reilly, former Scottish Downhill MTB Champion and Lee Craigie, British XC MTB Champion).
Sessions cover a range of mountain bike techniques designed to grow riders’ skills and confidence on the trail. These include: braking, cornering, effective use of gears, balance and weight-shifting, riding up and down steep hills, front-wheel lifts, manuals, track-stands, step-ups, drop-offs, going over particular types of terrain (e.g. roots, rocks, water crossing). Sessions typically start with a range of exercises focused on particular techniques, followed by a ride-out to put the newly honed skills into practice.
